CURO is a program already available to all students, so there is no need to "join" or "apply." Instead, CURO facilitates student engagement in research through multiple offerings. These offerings allow students to tailor their undergraduate research experience to their specific goals.
Building upon the interest and curiosity students bring to UGA and the introduction to research many students will receive through the First-Year Odyssey seminars, CURO offers a number of starting points for undergraduates to begin crafting a complete research experience—from their first year through graduation. Throughout, CURO emphasizes one-on-one mentoring by premiere research faculty.
Each student will come to CURO at a different stage. And CURO wants to aid students at all stages of the research process, even those who are uncertain of what they want to research (because they have many diverse interests) or what is available.
For those students who have more general interests or wish to explore opportunities in broadly inclusive areas, CURO offers the CURO Gateway Seminars.
Other students may have developed a specific research interest. For these students who have secured permission to work with a mentor, the CURO Research Courses are the ideal place to start.
As students progress in their understanding and achievements through research, CURO facilitates the next stages: funding (Summer Fellowship), presenting (CURO Symposium and External Opportunities) and publishing (JURO).
Continuing in their research, students may wish to pursue a more focused, immersive undertaking, outside of the responsibilities to other courses and activities. CURO offers the CURO Summer Fellowships.
Through the CURO Symposium, Research Thesis and the Journal for Undergraduate Research (JURO), CURO provides nationally recognized programming and allows students to share their work with the academic communities here and beyond.
And as students prepare for the next stage—graduate, professional or career—they can finalize an impressive research portfolio with the CURO Graduation Distinction.
